Scouts- Cardboard Box Camp

This year the scouts took up the challenge of sleeping in a cardboard box. For some scouts this was the first time, some the second and for a few of the older ones third. The scouts arrived at Hunters Greave and started to put up their boxes. Jasmine, Daisy, Hannah and Katie made a box for four, Ellie Adam and Oscar made a hexagonal box, Tommy, Kyle,Woody and Kyle each made single tobelerones and Johnathon, Luke and Jay made a box for three and a single box. When the boxes were made the scouts went inside the hut and had dinner. The scouts then did a quiz while the leaders lit the campfire. When the campfire was lit, all the scouts made their way down to the fire. All the scouts sung campfire songs and when they ran out, they started listening and singing along to songs by Queen and other fun party songs. After the campfire the scouts watched a film called rudolph and had hot chocolate and biscuits. The scouts then shuffled into their sleeping bags and went to sleep. When the scouts woke in the morning they had breakfast and started to take their boxes down and gave the cardboard to one of the leaders who put it on the fire.  They tidied up the hut and the campsite and waited for their parents to pick us up. Everyone enjoyed the camp and it gave everyone a feel to be homeless.

JOTI

The PLs and APLs from the scout section joined in with a trial JOTI- Jamboree on the internet. They joined up with Pudsey scout troop at the Pudsey scout shop. The scouts learnt how to do morse code and the phonetic alphabet. They had fun using radios to pass messages and enjoyed playing on the online morse code games. Each scout was partnered up with someone from Pudsey and they were playing on the games. All the scouts had lunch then looked at the various places that Pudsey had reached.  Unfortunately for Farsley scouts, the internet went down in the building that we were working in meaning that we couldn't reach anyone abroad. Apart from this all the scouts learnt something and enjoyed their day. Thanks to this trial, the younger scouts will get to have a go at JOTI in the future as the scout leaders now know how it works.

November Church Services

In November, our scout group supported the church in their annual remembrance and shoe box appeal service. This year, unlike others, both services were on the same day so we attended both. The shoe box appeal was very good and the amount of shoe boxes collected was amazing. Approximately there were over 150 boxes altogether and a good deal were donated by the scout group. The remembrance service was also interesting with some boys from boys brigade doing readings.

These are all the boxes that were collected.

After both the services, we had lunch then set off down town street to the cenotaph. When we reached the cenotaph we were placed in positions and waited for the ceremony to begin. The Vicar led the service along with some other councillors. When it was time to lay the wreath Hannah had to get ready and join the line of people laying wreaths. Some representatives from the church were there along with a representative from guides and cadets. Other people were there laying their wreaths.
This was during the service.
This was after the service.
